These are only a few of the artists featured on this page.

Featured Publishers:A few of the publishers included in this page are the Associated American Artists, the Gazette des Beaux-Artsthe, the Societe des Aqua-Fortistes, L'Estampe Moderne, LeBlond & Company and The Studio. They have published some of the finest original graphic works of art. If you wish to view the entire list, please go to the www.artoftheprint.com (Featured Publisher's History) page to access this information. You will find a brief history for most of the publishers listed.

American Artists Group: During the years of the Great Depression the American Artists Group was a leading publisher of original lithographs and woodcuts. Artists such as Warren Newcombe, Alan Lewis, Emil Ganso and many others were commissioned for works of art. Prints commissioned by the AAG were not hand-signed nor numbered in specific editions but it is known that the publishers usually printed only two hundred impressions from the stone or woodblock.

Associated American Artists: the Associated American Artists of New York was founded in the mid 1930's. The Associated American Artists commissioned original graphic art from such great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and others. It published etchings and lithographs of no less stature during the 1960's as contributing artists included Jack Levine, Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns, Irwin D. Hoffman and Sidney Chafetz.

Cadart: During the 1850's and 1860's Cadart was the leading French publisher of original etchings. Delatre printed the majority of etchings. Delatre was perhaps one of the greatest printer of all times. Meryon, Whistler, Laurens and Jacquemart are just a few of the artists of the period that had Delatre print their original etchings.

The 'Societe des Aqua-Fortistes' was founded by Cadart in 1862. Until its demise in 1867, it was responsible for publishing some of the greatest French art of this important era.

Gazette des Beaux-Arts: The Gazette des Beaux-Arts began publishing in 1859. From the beginning of its publication the Gazette regularly commissioned the greatest etchers of the day to supply original graphic works of art. Nineteenth century editions included original etchings by Daubigny, Appian, Goya, Meryon, Whistler, Seymour Haden, Liebermann, Maclaughlan, Besnard and others and from the beginning of our century to the last publication in 1930 such great artists as Friant, Beurdeley, Louis Jou, Gobo and the American, John Sloan and others from this period responded with original etchings. It is easy to see why original works published by the Gazette Des Beaux-Arts have long been collected.

L'Estampe Moderne: L'Estampe Moderne was the leading French publisher of original French prints during the late nineteenth century. Leandre, Steinlen and others contributed commissioned works for this highly regarded publisher.

LeBlond & Company: The best known followers of Baxter are the LeBlond Brothers. In 1840 they established the engraving and printing firm of 'LeBlond & Company' in Walbrook, London. In 1849 they had become Baxter's principal licensees (Baxter had taken out patents on his invention and charged a fee to those who used it). However, by the mid 1850's the brothers had become Baxter's chief rivals. The LeBlond Brothers proved to be particularly skillful at pirating Baxter's images and thus cashed in on an already developed market. Yet most of their prints (most notably their views) were original creations, and it is with very fine works of original art that their fame now rests.

The Studio: During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century special art journals around the world published original etchings, lithographs and woodcuts on a regular basis. Some of the greatest original prints from this classic era were commissioned and published by The Studio, in London, Pan, in Germany, The Print Connoisseur, in America, and Vervielfaltigende Kunst, in Vienna. Whistler, Pennell and many others contributed.

William Ottley: William Young Ottley will forever be remembered both as an artist and as an art researcher. During his life, Ottley became the greatest authority on the art of the Italian Renaissance and published a number of books and portfolios on this subject. 'The Italian School of Design' stands as his paramount achievement. Altogether the completed portfolio contained eighty-four plates, engraved by such eminent artists as F. C. Lewis, Schiavonetti, Thomas Vivares and William Long. Ottley Himself supervised the progress of each etching.

Note: The catalogue is set up in alphabetical order by artist's last name. This catalogue also contains links to the images corresponding to the original etchings, lithographs, watercolors, paintings, drawings or other mediums of original graphic art that are listed here if the image is available. the measurement for all works of art listed are in inches and are approximate, height precedes width of plate-mark or the image image.
