Dobson: The Philadelphia publisher, Thomas Dobson published his Encyclopeadia from (1790 to 1798). Dobson's Encyclopeadia was one of the first American illustrated sets of volumes of its kind. The engraved plates mainly dealt with science, natural history and the useful arts of the day.

One should also take note of the nineteenth century printing companies. Some of the printers mentioned are The Hatch Lithographic Company, The Forbes Company, Ma Donaldson Brothers, Bufford's Sons and many others. They were printing the most expensive and most creative art in the advertising field.

Containing the series name, "Comme on dine a Paris", and number, "19" in the upper margin. It also includes the publication and printer's details, "Chez Aubert, Pl. de la Bourse, 29.", "Imp. d'Aubert & Cie". Text on verso, as is usual with lithographs from 'Le Charivari'. Else this is a finely printed impression and in good condition throughout. "La Marchande d’Arlequins" represents a brilliant, original example of the art of Charles-Joseph Travies de Villers.

  Competing companies were quick to recognize the vast potential of this color process. Beginning around 1870, advertisers regularly allied their products to appealing visual images. And, like today, these images often had very little connection with the product being sold! By the mid 1880's advertisers and their printers were creating the most expensive and elaborate works of art in color. As antique art, advertisements such as this original example for the Jas. Chadwick & Bro's, Bolton, England, Bridgeport, Conn & New York, reflect the true tastes and desires of the times.
