Honore Daumier

Monsieur Par Suite de la Fusion, Je Vous Rends L' Argent de Vos Actions... (Les Philantropes du Jour, Le Charivari, Paris)

Honore Daumier's original lithograph, Monsieur Par Suite de la Fusion, Je Vous Rends L' Argent de Vos Actions... was published on January 12th 1846 for Les Philantropes du Jour (Philantropes of the Day), a delightful series of thirty-four lithographs published between September 1844 and January 1846 by Le Charivari, Paris. This impression contains the plate # (34) and the series title "Les Philantropes dujour" in the upper margin. It signed in withing the stone with Daumier's "h. D." monogram. It also includes the publication and printer's details "Chez Aubert Pl de la Bourse, 29, Imp. d' Aubert & Cie." and the full tilte "Monsieur Par Suite de la Fusion, Je Vous Rends L' Argent de Vos Actions... je veux supporter seul tous les frais d'administration... je ne retiens que deux pour cent pour faire face a la liquidation, plus quatre pour change du billon ... plus ... - Monsieur, tant de generosite me plonge dans le stupefactions!..." in the lower margin. This is a fine, original example of the lithographic art created by the French satirical artist, Honore Daumier.

Note: Honore Daumier: France's greatest satirical artist of all time should require very little introduction. Along with England's Hogarth and Spain's Goya, Daumier's wonderful imagery of human foibles and failings is unsurpassed. A master painter and sculptor, Honore Daumier will always be best remembered for his incredible lithographs, particularly those published by Le Charivari from the early 1830's onwards. This was the Golden Age of French satirical art. Such praiseworthy masters as Gavarni, Bourdet and Grandville devoted themselves almost exclusively to this vital art form. Yet nobody, either in that era or since then, has managed to blend brilliant artistry, biting social commentary and pure humour at Daumier's high level. Honore Daumier's lithographs have claimed a huge influence for more than one hundred and fifty years. As one can see from this original lithograph entitled, Monsieur Par Suite de la Fusion,... Daumier's manner of capturing expression and emotion has perhaps never been equaled. This original lithograph hails from the Quinzieme Anne.- No. 12 issue, dated Monday, January 12, 1846. The scene depicts two gentlemen standing in a room, a heavier set man with a bieard and wearing glasses to the left talking to an older man to the right. The Heidelberg University Library includes an impression of this orignal lithograph in its permanent collection, Le Charivari, 1946 (No. 1-31), #43.
Les Philantropes du Jour (Philantropes of the Day) is a delightful series of thirty-four lithographs Honore Daumier created between September 1844 and January 1846.

Containing the publication and printer's details "Chez Aubert Pl de la Bourse, 29, Imp. d' Aubert & Cie." and the full tilte "Monsieur Par Suite de la Fusion, Je Vous Rends L' Argent de Vos Actions... je veux supporter seul tous les frais d'administration... je ne retiens que deux pour cent pour faire face a la liquidation, plus quatre pour change du billon ... plus ... - Monsieur, tant de generosite me plonge dans le stupefactions!..." in the lower margin. This is a fine, original example of the lithographic art created by the French satirical artist, Honore Daumier. This impression contains an unobtrusive fold lines, else in very good condition throughout without a sign of staining or foxing. Altogether, this is a wonderful, original example of Daumier's art at the height of his creative powers.
