God Siva

Arun Bose's original color etching and engraving entitled, "God Siva" was printed in individual colors of red, blue grey and black. It was published in 1969 by Pratt Graphics Center, New York in the limited edition of seventy five impressions. On the verso of the paper the printer has written, "Pratt Ap #1", meaning that this is an 'Artist Proof #1'. When the edition was struck several colors were modified; orange was substituted for red and brown was substituted for grey. "God Siva" is a fine, original example of the important Indian American art of Arun Bose.

Note: Arun Bose: A leading Bengal painter, etcher and lithographer, Arun Bose received his artistic education at the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta, and at the Ecole Superieur des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Bose then returned to India and was a primary member of the Calcutta Group whose influential work introduced modernist ideas and forms into Indian art. Several years later Arun Bose was awarded a Rockefeller Scholarship and moved to New York City.
  In the following years the art of Arun Bose was the subject of one man exhibitions in such international locations as Calcutta, New York and Chile. Today his art is included in such collections as the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta.
Provenance: God Siva hails from the collection of Roger Trlak and bearing his inventory number, 'T-533', on the verso of the support sheet. Roger Trlak (1934-1975) established the commercial art company of Martin-Trlak in Chicago. In 1972 he also opened the RST Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where he exhibited not only his own large collection of mostly contemporary art but also held important exhibitions of many modern artists. These Included such major American and international printmakers as Joseph Hirsch, Luigi Lucioni and Paul Wunderlich. Among Trlak's closest friends in the arts community were Raphael Soyer, Ivan Albright and Hans Burkhardt. Their original prints and paintings were regularly exhibited at the RST Gallery until it was closed in 1975 due to Trlak's untimely death.

  Matted with 100% Archival Materials
Condition: Printed upon pure rag paper with the 'Arches' watermark and with full, deckled margins. Signed by the artist in pencil under the lower plate-mark. Bearing a faint light stain in the margin to the lower right, else a finely printed, Artist Proof impression with unfaded colors and in good condition throughout. This original etching and engraving entitled, "God Siva" represents a prime, original example of the important Indian American art of Arun Bose.
