Axel Hermann Haig's, original etching, "The Round Tower, Windsor Castle" was created by one of Britain's most highly regarded architectural etchers from the turn of the 19th and 20th century. This impression is signed and dated in the lower right corner of the plate by Haig with his monogramme and also bears the title and the text with his name under the etching, as published by J. S. Virtue & Co. Limited, London for The Art Journal in 1887. "The Art Journal" was an important late nineteenth and early twentieth century annual dedicated to the visual arts. "The Round Tower, Windsor Castle" is a fine, original example of the architectural art created by the British artist, Axel Haig

Note: Axel Hermann Haig 'Axel Haig': At the end of the nineteenth and at the beginning of the twentieth century, Axel Haig was one of Britain's most famous etchers. Haig, however, was actually born and raised on Gotland Island, Sweden, and initially studied naval architecture. Later, he settled in London and began working for several architects. Haig studied etching in his spare hours and within several years began producing the large architectural views that made him famous. His art in this medium quickly gained national recognition and Axel Haig became a regular exhibitor at the prestigious Royal Academy. He was also a full member of the Royal Society of Etchers and Engravers.
  In total, Axel Haig created over four hundred etchings, the majority depicting castles, towers and cathedrals in both England and on the Continent. The Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum, London, own large collections of his etched art.
  "The Round Tower, Windsor Castle" was published by J. S. Virtue & Co. Limited, London for The Art Journal in 1887. "The Art Journal" was an important late nineteenth and early twentieth century annual dedicated to the visual arts. Such leading artists as Axel Haig, J. M. W. Whistler, Seymour Haden, Herbert Von Herkomer, Alfred Brunet-Debaines, John MacWhirter, Miles Birket Foster, Sir Charles Holroyd, Alphonse Legros, John MacWhirter, Arthur Severn and others. Axel Haig contributed a number of etched plates to The Art Journal, London over several decades.

Condition: Printed on nineteenth century wove paper and with full margins as published by J. S. Virtue & Co. Limited, London for The Art Journal in 1887. Signed and dated in the lower right corner of the plate by Haig with his monogramme and also bearing the title, "The Round Tower, Windsor Castle" and the text with the artist's name under the image, as published for The Art Journal. Printed in sepia and in excellent condition throughout.
