Juhan Jaagu Muks, original watercolor entitled, "Harlequin" was created by the artist in 1946. This is a masterpiece of line, tone and coloration. This watercolor is painted upon hand-made, laid paper and is signed and dated by Juhan Muks to the lower right. "Harlequin" represents a fine, original of the portrait art created by Juhan Jaagu Muks, a leading Estonian/Latvian painter of the twentieth century.

Note: Juhan Jaagu Muks 'Juhan Muks': A leading Estonian/Latvian painter of the twentieth century, Juhan Jaagu Muks first studied at the State School of Applied Art in Tallinn. He then apprenticed in the studio of Ants Laikmaa from 1917 to 1919. In 1921-22, Juhan Muks completed his art education at the Latvian Art Academy, Riga.
  For the following three years Juhan Jaagu Muks lived and worked in Pallas, where his first exhibitions took place. In 1925, he first visited Paris, France, and during the following fourteen years lived mostly near that city. At this time Juhan Muks's paintings and drawings were frequently exhibited at the Salon des Independants and elsewhere.
  At the outbreak of World War Two (1939) Juhan Jaagu Muks returned to his native land where he continued to produce fine paintings and drawings. Juhan Muks was awarded the prestigious Estonian Artists' Association Konrad Magi Award. Today the art of Juhan Muks is included in such fine institutions as the Art Museum of Estonia, the Tartu Art Museum, the Vijandi Museum, the Tallinn Art Hall Foundation, and many other public and private collections. In 2013, the Adamson-Eric Museum held a retrospective exhibition of the art of Juhan Muks curated by Ulle Kruus.
  A master of both landscapes and figure studies, Juhan Muks was equally gifted in abstract and representational forms of art. Harlequin, created in 1946, is a masterpiece of line, tone and coloration. This watercolour depicts a shoulder length portrait of a boy with a bird perched on his right shoulder.
