Date: 1884 (Dodd Mead & Company, 1888 Ed.)

Note: Paul-Leon Jazet: A French painter and etcher of military scenes and portraits, Paul-Leon Jazet studied art in Paris, under Barrias. He first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1869 and shortly thereafter established an international reputation with exhibitions in both England and the United States.
Les Deux Fils (The Two Sons) is a comical examination of the opposite states of the sacred and profane, as seen in the two brothers. The brother to the right has joined the military and has surrounded himself with the pleasures of life, a bottle of wine, a cigar and a pretty maid. The other, a priest, has opted for the rigors of spiritual life. No earthly comforts, save his aged parents, surround him. The states of mind of the brothers is perfectly described in their gestures, particularly in the contrasting manners in which they sit and hold their hands. Paul-Leon Jazet has also included delightful little caricatures of the faces of the brothers in the outer margins.
This impression of Les Deux Fils (The Two Sons) was published by Dodd Mead & Company, New York in the New York publication of original etchings entitled, Etchings of French Artists.
