Stephanie Pogue's original etching, "Untitled Composition" is printed upon hand-made paper and with full margins as published in 1969 in the limited edition of two hundred impressions. This original work of art is signed, dated and numbered by Stephanie Pogue in pencil along the lower margin and hails from the collection of Roger Trlak. "Untitled Composition" is an accomplished, early example of the art created by the 20th century African-American artist Stephanie Pogue.

Note: Stephanie Pogue: A contemporary African American painter and printmaker, Stephanie Pogue received her B.F.A. from Howard University, Washington DC (1963-1966), and her M.F.A. from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (1968). She served as both a Professor and Gallery Director at Fisk University, Nashville, from 1968 to 1981, and has been a Professor of Art at the University of Maryland, from 1981 to the present.
  Stephanie Pogue's first exhibition of art took place at Fisk University in 1966. Since that time, her paintings and prints have been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (1975), El Museo de Arte Moderna, Cali, Columbia (1976), Cinque Gallery, New York (1977), City Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, Taiwan (1983), Centre d'Art de Rouge-Cloitre, Brussels (1988) and Museo do Gravura, Curitiba, Brazil (1991). Stephanie Pogue's etchings were also included in the important 1996 exhibition, "Bearing Witness: Contemporary Works by African American Women Artists", which was held at Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia.
Provenance: From the collection of Roger Trlak and bearing his inventory number, 'T-260', on the verso. Roger Trlak (1934-1975) established the commercial art company of Martin-Trlak in Chicago. In 1972 he also opened the RST Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where he exhibited not only his own large collection of mostly contemporary art but also held important exhibitions of many modern artists. These Included such major American and international printmakers as Joseph Hirsch, Luigi Lucioni, Jacob Landau, Birgit Skiold and Paul Wunderlich. Among Trlak's closest friends in the arts community were Raphael Soyer, Ivan Albright and Hans Burkhardt. Contemporary prints and paintings were constantly exhibited at the RST Gallery until it was closed in 1975 due to Trlak's untimely death.

Condition: Printed upon hand-made paper and with full margins as published in 1969 in the limited edition of two hundred impressions. Signed, dated and numbered, '105/200', by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Containing an unidentified printer's blindstamp to the lower right. A strong, rich impression and in excellent condition throughout. This original etching represents an accomplished early example of the art of Stephanie Pogue.
