WP Eberhard Eggers's "Portrait of a Proud Lady" is an original etching and aquatint engraving created by the contemporary German artist in 1968. This impression was published by the Associated American Artists in New York. It is printed upon thick, laid paper and with full, deckled margins and signed, dated and numbered, '17/250', by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. This engraving portrays a surreal image of a woman in a room, with its superb use of both etching and tonal aquatint it is a wonderful example of the unique art created by Wilheim Paul Eberhard Eggers.

Note: WP Eberhard Eggers 'Wilheim Paul Eberhard Eggers': One of Germany's most famous contemporary artists, WP Eberhard Eggers has received a strong international reputation for his etchings, engravings, hand-made books and sculpture. In total over two hundred one man exhibitions of his art have taken place throughout Europe and America since he began exhibiting his work in the mid 1960's. Recent one man exhibitions have taken place at the Galerie Hohmann, Hamburg (1996), the Galerie Duden, Berlin (2000) and Kunstverein Bad Salzdefurth (2001). WP Eberhard Eggers has also been a visiting professor at the Universities of Hawaii and Wisconsin as well as an appointed professor of art at the Arizona State University (1986).
  WP Eberhard Eggers concentrated almost exclusively upon engraving and etching during the late 1960's and the 1970's decade. His unique blend of surrealism and psychological imagery gained him many commissions in both Germany and the United States. Portrait of a Proud Lady was published in 1968 and was his first commissioned etching for an American publisher. With its superb use of both etching and tonal aquatint it is a wonderful example of Eggers's truly unique art.
  Portrait of a Proud Lady was commissioned by the Associated American Artists of New York in a sole limited edition of 250 impressions. Since its creation in the mid 1930's the Associated American Artists commissioned original graphic art from such great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and others. It published etchings and lithographs of no less stature during the 1960's and 1970's as contributing artists from around the world included Lily Harmon, Wilheim Paul Eberhard Eggers, Jacob Landau, W. B. Eberhard Eggers, Peter Klitsch, Robert Bero, David Shapiro, Jack Levine, Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns, Gregory Masurovsky, Jack Coughlin and Sidney Chafetz. Eberhard Eggers is known to have contributed at least three original etchings to the A.A.A. from 1968 to 1977.
Provenance: This original Wilheim Paul Eberhard Eggers etching and aquatint engraving hails from the collection of Roger Trlak and bearing his inventory number, 'T-054', on the lower margin. Roger Trlak (1934-1975) established the commercial art company of Martin-Trlak in Chicago. In 1972 he also opened the RST Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where he exhibited not only his own large collection of mostly contemporary art but also held important exhibitions of many modern artists. These Included such major American and international printmakers as Joseph Hirsch, Luigi Lucioni, Jacob Landau, Birgit Skiold and Paul Wunderlich. Among Trlak's closest friends in the arts community were Raphael Soyer, Ivan Albright and Hans Burkhardt. Contemporary prints and paintings were constantly exhibited at the RST Gallery until it was closed in 1975 due to Trlak's untimely death.
