Title: Tea Time
  Die-Cut
Date: c. 1880
Medium: Original Chromolithograph
Note: This set five original 'Die-Cuts was created around 1880. In the center, there are three miniature flower baskets. To the left and the right of the floral baskets, there are two young girls, one holding fruit on a platter and the other girl is holding up a tray with a tea pot, tea cups and saucers. These are delightful examples of the 19th century miniature Die-Cut art. The 'Die-Cut' was perhaps the most complex innovation. It not only used the elaborate techniques of chromolithography, embossing, multiple hues and raised printings to create an almost three dimensional quality, it also developed a method where their images could be cut into shapes during the printing process by a tool called a die. By 1880 the chromolithographic die-cut reached its pinnacle with the most colourful and complex imagery, such as this fine example entitled, Tea Time, standing out in direct relief.
