Note: This original 19th century 'Die-Cut' depicts the portrait of a young girl wearing her Sunday bonnet and a blue and white dress. The blue flowers in her hair highlight the charm of her blue eyes. It is a splendid example of miniature art. The 'Die-Cut' was perhaps the most complex innovation. It not only used the elaborate techniques of chromolithography, embossing, multiple hues and raised printings to create an almost three dimensional quality, it also developed a method where their images could be cut into shapes during the printing process by a tool called a die. By 1880 the chromolithographic die-cut reached its pinnacle with the most colourful and complex imagery standing out in direct relief.
