Porte du Parc de Versailles Route de Marly

Porte du Parc de Versailles: Route de Marly

Jean-Baptiste Louis Cazin's landscape view, Porte du Parc de Versailles: Route de Marly is an original etching printed upon early wove paper and with large margins on three sides as published in Paris around 1795. Porte du Parc de Versailles: Route de Marly is a fine, original example of the early landscape art created by the French artist, Jean-Baptiste-Louis Cazin.

Title: Porte du Parc de Versailles: Route de Marly
Artist: Cazin, Jean-Baptiste-Louis (Paris, Active, 1791 - 1810)
Date: c. 1795
Medium: Original Etching
Note: Jean Baptiste Louis Cazin: A French landscape painter and etcher of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, Jean-Baptiste-Louis Cazin studied art in Paris under Jollain. Both his etchings and paintings were annually exhibited at the Paris Salons from 1791 to 1810. It is generally believed that the artist died sometime around 1830.
Of great interest is the etched work of Jean Baptiste Louis Cazin, particularly his views of landscape and villages around Paris. Both the art of etching and landscape depictions were not common in French art during the final years of the eighteenth century. Cazin's work, therefore, looks forward to the first great landscape etchers of the 1840's and 1850's -- the Barbizon School artists such as Corot, Daubigny and Jacque. This original etching depicting a view of Porte du Parc de Versailles: Route de Marly is one of a set of views (all designed and etched by Cazin) of the French countryside published in Paris around 1795.
Size: 5 X 7 1/4 (Sizes in inches are approximate, height preceding width of plate-mark or image.)
