Ninos Trabajando por la Paz (Children Working for Peace)

Mariana Yampolsky's original linocut, "Ninos Trabajando por la Paz", (Children Working for Peace) is printed upon stiff. white, wove paper and with large, full margins as created and printed by the artist around 1950 at the Taller de Grafica Popular (TGP). It is signed in pencil by Yampolsky to the lower right. This original impression bears a type written tag along the lower left margin with the artist's name, the title of the piece and the medium. "Ninos trabajando por la Paz" is a fine example of the famous Mexican art created by Mariana Yampolsky.

Note: Mariana Yampolsky: A major Mexican photographer, printmaker and painter of the twentieth century, Mariana Yampolsky graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago in 1945. Fascinated with both Mexican art and culture she immediately moved to Mexico City and enrolled in la Escuela de Pintura y Escultura and joined the outstanding graphic arts workshop, Taller de Grafica Popular (TGP). She worked there creating lithographs and linocuts until 1958 with such artists as Leopoldo Mendez, Alfredo Zalce, Pablo O'Higgins, Alberto Beltran, Luis Arenal, Francisco Dosamantes, and Jose Ignacio Aguirre. Mariana Yampolsky was also the first woman elected to the Taller de Grafica's board of Directors. It is probable that Ninos trabajando por la Paz (Children working for Peace) was created and printed there.
  In 1948, Mariana Yampolsky began experimenting with photography. She soon became as famous in this form of art as in printmaking. Her influential Mexican photographs have been published in such books as, La Casa en la Tierra, El Casa que Canta, El Raiz y el Camino and Estancias del Olvido.
  Since 1955 the prints and photographs of Mariana Yampolsky have been the subject of international exhibitions in Tokyo, Zurich, Milan, Berlin, London, Chicago, New York and elsewhere.
  In 1947, the Taller de Grafica Popular (TGP), published the famous portfolio entitled, Las Estampas de la Revolucion Mexicana, 85 Grabados de los Artistas del Taller de Grafica Popular, editado por la Estampa Mexicana. (Prints of the Mexican Revolution 85 engravings from the artist of the TGP, edited by the Estampa Mexicana). The portfolio included original graphic works of art by Mariana Yampolsky, Ignacio Aguirre, Angel Bracho, Alfredo Zalce, Luis Arenal and other famous artists of the TGP.
