Letter to my Grandmother

Adam Wurtz's original etching and engraving, "Letter to my Grandmother" is printed upon fine archival paper with the 'Arches' watermark and with full, deckled margins as published in the small edition of only twenty five impressions by the Pratt Graphics Center in 1985. It is signed and dated in the plate"Wurtz A.:1985. XI 25. N.Y.", and signed "A. Wurtz", titled "Letter to my Grandmother", and numbered, '2/25' by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Adam Wurtz's art contains strong elements of both Surrealism and Primitivism and is particularly evident in this etching. "Letter to my Grandmother" is a fine original example of the twentieth century graphic art created the Hungarian artist, Adam Wurtz. In this original work of art, Adam Wurtz depicts a montage of surreal imagery dealing with his childhood home in Tamasi and a letter to his grandmother. The upper portion of the etching is dominated by strange faces, a bizarre hooked fish floating above a house grouped along with an owl, an angel, an envelope posted to his Grandmother in Tamasi, Hungary from his New York address and various other fantastic mechanisms. Central to the imagery is the actual letter. Behind it a man holds a star in his fingers.
