Donald Frederick Witherstine's original woodcut, Among the Souks - Fez - Morocco is printed upon Japanese mulberry paper and with full margins as published around 1930. This impression is signed and titled in pencil by the artist along the lower margin. With its superb tonal qualities and bold contrasts of lights and darks, Among the Souks - Fez - Morocco, is a fine, original example of the American Art Deco era created by Donald Witherstine.

Note: Donald Frederick Witherstine 'Donald Witherstine': A fine American etcher and woodcut artist, Donald Frederick Witherstine studied at Bradley College, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Shortly thereafter he moved to Provincetown to complete his studies in graphic art under George Elmer Browne. Around 1930 Donald Witherstine visited and worked in Spain, Andorra, France and Morocco. His paintings and prints of these areas and of his home country were exhibited extensively in Boston, Chicago and New York.
  Donald Witherstine was a full member of the Salamina Club, the Boston Arts Club and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He was also a Director of the Provincetown Art Association. In 1947 Witherstine founded and operated the Shore Studios, in Provincetown, which represented a number of major American painters and printmakers.
  With its superb tonal qualities and bold contrasts of lights and darks, Among the Souks - Fez - Morocco, is considered to be a masterpiece of the 1930's American Art Deco era. Donald Frederick Witherstine rarely numbered his original woodcuts in specific editions. It is believed, however, that none exceeded 100 impressions and most were printed in considerably smaller numbers.

  Matted with 100% Archival Materials
Condition: Printed upon Japanese mulberry paper and with full margins as published around 1930. Signed and titled in pencil by the artist along the lower margin. Very slight matte burn exists in the outer margins, else a deeply printed impression and in excellent condition throughout. This original woodcut represents a superb example of the woodcut art of Donald Witherstine.
