Frank P. Whiting 'Frank Whiting': A twentieth
century American architect and etcher, Frank Whiting studied architecture
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then worked and studied
under Ernest Flagg. During his career, Frank P. Whiting designed such buildings
as the Farmer's Museum, Cooperstown, N. Y., the Burton Art Gallery,
Bideford, and a number of colonial style homes in the United States.
Frank Whiting lived and worked in both New York City and Cooperstown. |

Frank Whiting's first experiments in etching date from
1934. He was a full member of the Society of American Artists. Today
the etchings of Frank P. Whiting are included in such collections as
the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York. |

Many of Frank Whiting's etchings concentrate upon
European scenes. "Napoleon Bridge, Paris" is typical of his fine rendering
of architectural elements. |

Printed upon hand-made, laid paper and with full, deckled
margins as created by the artist in 1947. Titled and signed in pencil by
Whiting along the lower margin. Containing very minimal light toning as
well as several spots on the verso of the paper, else a strongly printed
impression and in good condition throughout. "Napoleon Bridge, Paris" represents
a fine, original example of the architectural art of Frank P. Whiting. |
