Note:	Philip C. Wharton 'Philip Wharton': An American painter, etcher, engraver and illustrator, Philip Wharton studied art in Pittsburgh and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, in Philadelphia. His first exhibited art dates from 1912 and for the following twenty years his paintings drawings and etchings were included in exhibitions in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Boston and New York. During this period he was also commissioned to illustrate several books, including the subject of natural history.
	Like Will Simmons, Benson and Heil, Philip Wharton was best known for his depictions of wildlife. The Investigation is typical of his fine art in this genre. Utilizing the thick, black lines of the drypoint medium he created a memorable image of a mother bear with her curious cub.
Edition:	The majority of Wharton's original engravings and etchings were not published in specific editions. Most, however, are known to have been printed in numbers of one hundred impressions or less.
Size:	5 3/4 X 8 (Sizes in inches are approximate, height preceding width of plate-mark or image.)
	Matted with 100% Archival Materials
Condition:	Printed upon thick wove paper and with full margins as published by the artist in 1923. Signed and dated by Wharton in pencil along the lower margin. Slight foxing exists in the outer margins, else a strongly printed impression and in good condition throughout.
