Joseph H. Walter's original drawing, Full Length Portrait Study is drawn upon nineteenth century wove paper and with full margins. It is signed, "Joseph H. Walter. March 9, 1893" to the lower left. It depicts a full length portrait of a young woman sitting on a stool. She is dressed typical late 19th century attire, the dress is ankle length, the hat is adorned with feathers and she is holding a parasol in her right hand. This original drawing is a prime, original example of the art created by the American artist, Joseph Walter.

Note: Joseph H. Walter: A painter and muralist of the American midwest, Joseph Walter was born and raised in Austria and studied art under Gripenkerl, in Vienna, and J. Hackl, S. Herterich and Loefftz, in Munich, Germany. He moved to the United States in the late 1880's and worked in Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois and Iowa. As well as painting and drawing many fine portraits, Walter was also commissioned to paint murals for churches in Madison, Petersburg, Peoria and Dubuque.
  Full Length Portrait Study is a beautifully rendered example of Walter's original art. Drawn in the medium of very soft graphite, the artist has here depicted both fine details and tonal values.
