Bela Sziklay's original hand-coloured etching, "Firenze, Palazzo del Popolo (Bargello Palace, Florence)" was created by the artist around 1935-1940. This impression was hand-colored by Sziklay using tones of yellow, blue, brown and gray. It is printed upon wove paper and with large margins, signed and titled, "Firenze", and annotated in pencil by the artist. Also signed "B. Sziklay" in the lower left of the plate. This etching depicts a view of the open courtyard with some of the statues & sculptures housed in the famous Museo Nazionale del Bargello also known as the Palazzo del Popolo and the Bargello Palace. The Bargello museum, one of the oldest public buildings is located near the Piazza della Signoria in Firenze (Florence), the capital city of the region of Tuscany, Italy. It houses the largest collection of Italian gothic and renaissance sculptures, as well as ceramics, textiles, and other wonderful artifacts featuring works by Michelangelo, Donatello, Benvenuto Cellini, Ghiberti, Brunelleschi and others. "Firenze, Palazzo del Popolo (Bargello Palace, Florence)" represents a prime, original example of the architectural art created by the Hungarian artist, Bela Sziklay.

Note: Bela Sziklay: A fine Hungarian artist, Bela Sziklay, first studied art in his native Hungary, and at the age of twenty three continued his artistic studies in France. At the end of 1934 Sziklay decided to move to Italy where he spent his career as an artist specializing in etching scenes of landmarks in Venice, Florence, Rome and other locations. According to Luigi Sziklay, his father also created a portrait of Pope Pius 12 and both he and his wife were invited by the Pope to a private audience. Bela Sziklay held many sole exhibitions in Rome, Tuscany, Florence, Montecantini, Venice and elsewhere. Statues in Florence (Firenze) is a striking example of the architectural art he created while in Florence. The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco includes several Bela Sziklay etchings in its permanent collection.
  "Statues in Florence" (Firenze) was hand-colored by the artist, Bela Sziklay using tones of yellow, blue, brown and gray. Sziklay created and sold his etchings in both black and white and hand-colored versions. This original etching depicts a view of the open courtyard with some of the statues & sculptures housed in the famous Museo Nazionale del Bargello also known as the Palazzo del Popolo and the Bargello Palace. The Bargello is one of the oldest public buildings located near the Piazza della Signoria in Firenze (Florence), the capital city of the region of Tuscany, Italy. It housed the first Capitano del Popolo (the Captain of the People), then became the Palace of the Podesta, eventually it housed the bargello (the police chief), at which point, the structure was employed as a barracks and prison. The Bargello next served as the headquarters for the police in Florence until the mid 19th century when the palace was finally converted into the Museo Nazionale del Bargello / the Bargello museum. This museum houses the largest collection of Italian gothic and renaissance sculptures, as well as ceramics, textiles, and other wonderful artifacts featuring works by Michelangelo, Donatello, Benvenuto Cellini, Ghiberti, Brunelleschi and others. "Firenze, Palazzo del Popolo (Bargello Palace, Florence)" is a fine, original example of the architectural art of Bela Sziklay.

Condition: Printed upon wove paper and with large margins as created by the artist around 1935-1940. Singed and titled, "Firenze" and annotated, in pencil along the lower margin. Also signed "B. Sziklay" in the lower left of the plate. Containing slight light toning as well as the remnants of paper backing on the verso, else a finely printed etching with unfaded colors and in good condition throughout. Statues in Florence represents a prime, original example of the etched art of Bela Sziklay.
