Barbara Martin Smith: A contemporary artist and
arts educator, Barbara Martin Smith received her Master of Fine Arts
degree from Southern Illinois University in 1975. Known not only for
her paintings and drawings, but for her work in weaving, batik and textile
design, she has participated in numerous exhibitions and shows in St.
Louis, Chicago, Cleveland and elsewhere. Barbara Martin Smith has served
as the Drawing and Foundations in Design Instructor, Michigan City, Indiana
(1979-1980), Art Instructor, Department of Art History and Education,
The Cleveland Museum of Art (1981-1983) and as the Art Instructor of
Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill School (1986-1999). |

Barbara Martin Smith is a full member of the St. Louis
Artists' Guild, the St. Louis Watercolor Society, the National Art Education
Association and the International Association for Education Through Art.
Among her awards and grants is the International Woman of the Year (1996-1997),
in recognition of her services to art education. |

Drawn upon a large sheet of smooth, archival paper and
with full margins as created by the artist in 1979. Signed by Smith in
the lower right corner and dated and titled by her in the lower left
corner. Rhythms is in excellent condition throughout and represents an
impressive, original example of the art of Barbara Martin Smith. |
