Wilson Eugene Silsby's original drypoint and etching, "Boats in Harbour", was created by the California artist around 1935. This original impression is printed upon fine mulberry paper and with full margins and is signed and numbered 'Second State, 100/7' by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. "Boats in Harbour" is a a fine, original example of Wilson Silsby's atmospheric techniques in the medium of the drypoint.

Note: Wilson Eugene Silsby 'Wilson Silsby': A California etcher, Wilson Eugene Silsby studied art under William Merrit Chase and Abbott Thayer and with private tutors in France and England. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1913 to work as an art director with the Universal Pictures Corporation. He later worked for several other Hollywood movie studios. Wilson Silsby began creating original etchings in the early 1920's. During the following decades he produced many fine works of art in this medium as well as authoring two books, Etching Methods and Materials and Dry-Points of Wilson Silsby. During the 1930's, Silsby's etchings and drypoint engravings were exhibited at the Ebell Salon, Los Angeles, the Paris Salons and at the Golden Gate Exposition of 1939.
  As one can see from this original etching, Wilson Silsby was a master of atmospheric techniques. For Boats in Harbor, he printed each impression onto Japanese mulberry paper which lent to the printed surface a very rich, translucent quality. Examples of Wilson Silsby's original etchings are today included in the following collections; the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum, New York, the Library of Congress, Washington DC, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Seattle Museum, Denver Museum, the New York Public Library, the San Francisco Museum of Art, the British Museum, London, the Paris Museum of Modern Art, the Uffizi, Florence, Italy, and the National Museum of Mexico, Mexico City.

Condition: Printed upon fine mulberry (rice) paper and with full margins as created by Wilson Silsby around 1935. Signed and numbered 'Second State, 100/7' by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Containing slight foxing in the outer margins else a beautifully printed impression and in fine condition throughout. This large and beautiful etching and engraving represents a prime example of the famous California art of Wilson Silsby.
