Jutta Sika - Gainfarn Bad Voslau

Gainfarn Bad Voslau

Jutta Sika's "Gainfarn Bad Voslau" is an original aquatint and etching created in 1926. It is typical of her accomplished and complex methods of printmaking. Within this multi-coloured composition, Jutta Sika has used etching in both hard and soft grounds as well as employing aquatint to further expand tonal values. "Gainfarn Bad Voslau" is printed on stiff wove paper and with wide margins. It is signed, dated and titled in the plate and also, titled and signed in pencil under the lower plate-mark. This original colour etching and aquatint is a fine example of the landscape art created by the Austrian artist, Jutta Sika.

Title: Gainfarn Bad Voslau
Artist: Sika, Jutta (Linz, 1877 - Vienna, 1964)
Date: 1926
Medium: Original Aquatint & Etching Printed in Colours
Note: Jutta Sika: An Austrian painter, printmaker and designer, Jutta Sika was active in the Secessionist movement in the early twentieth century. Like many Secessionists, Jutta Sika explored bold design concepts in many forms of art. At the turn of the century she designed a number of modernist ceramics for the Vienna porcelain company of Josef Bock. During this period she also completed her formal art education at the Vienna Academy.
During the following decades Jutta Sika painted many fine landscapes, designed a number of post cards and experimented in many mediums of the graphic arts. Gainfarn Bad Voslau is typical of Jutta Sika's accomplished and complex methods of printmaking. Within this multi-coloured composition, Jutta Sika has used etching in both hard and soft grounds as well as employing aquatint to further expand tonal values. The colour range consists of many distinct shades of blues, greens and browns. This etching is clearly a master work of colour printmaking.
By 1925 Jutta Sika's art was regularly exhibited in both Paris and Vienna. Today museums in Germany, Austria, France and the United States include her etchings, paintings and porcelains in the permanent collections.
Size: 9 1/4 X 12 3/8 (Sizes in inches are approximate, height preceding width of plate-mark or image.)
  Matted with 100% Archival Materials
Condition: Printed on stiff wove paper and with wide margins. Some matte burning is evident in the outer margins as well as framer's notations. A hairline split (restored) has occurred along the plate-mark to the upper left, due to the brittle nature of the paper. Else, a finely printed impression with strong, unfaded colours.
