Shu Sarashina

Shu Sarashina Syu Sarashina - Yuna Four Women

Yuna (Four Women)

Shu Sarashina's original color aquatint and etching, Yuna (Four Women) is printed upon thick wove paper and with large full margins as published in the limited edition of fifty impressions around 1975. This impression is signed and numbered by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. With a brilliant, almost surreal technique the artist compares and contrasts layered objects and shapes. "Yuna Four Women" is a fine, original example of the graphic art created by the contemporary Japanese artist, Shu Sarashina who is also listed as 'Syu Sarashina'.

Title: Yuna (Four Women)
Artist: Sarashina, Shu 'Syu Sarashina' (Hokkaido, Japan, Born, 1935)
Date: 1975
Medium: Original Color Aquatint and Etching
Note: Shu Sarashina 'Syu Sarashina': A fine twentieth century Japanese etcher, Shu Sarashina studied printmaking techniques in Tokyo. Sarashina's etched art has been exhibited nationally since the early 1960's and internationally since 1970. The artist is a full member of the Japan Print Association (Nihon-hanga-kyokai).
Either directly or indirectly the compelling imagery of Shu Sarashina's etchings is inspired by his observations of life and nature in his native Hokkaido, Japan's most northerly major island. With a brilliant, almost surreal technique the artist compares and contrasts layered objects and shapes. As one can see in "Yuna" Four Women, the more one examines the imagery the more one is drawn into further layers of form and substance. This is a truly masterful example of modern Japanese printmaking. Sarashina's first name is listed under both, (Shu) or (Syu).
