Spirit of Speed II (Race Car in Motion)

In his art, Michael Robbins concentrates upon the elements of speed and motion and how they relate to atmosphere, light and colors. An original linocut, "Spirit of Speed II" (Race Car in Motion) was printed and published by the artist in 1989 in a limited edition of forty-five signed impressions. Each impression was hand-colored by the artist, who used differing ranges of tones and values to explore the facets of speed and color. Thus every impression is a unique work of art and is a fine example of the contemporary art created by the American artist, Michael Jed Robbins.

Note: Michael Robbins (Michael Jed Robbins ): In his art, Michael Robbins concentrates upon the elements of speed and motion and how they relate to atmosphere, light and colors. An original linocut, "Spirit of Speed II" depicting a race car in motion was printed and published in 1989 in a limited edition of forty-five signed impressions. Each impression was spoon rubbed and hand-colored by the artist himself. He used differing ranges of tones and values to explore the facets of speed and color. Thus every impression is a unique work of art.
  A contemporary New York painter and printmaker, Michael Robbins graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cooper Union in 1970. He then taught art techniques for a period of one year at Syracuse University. Robbins began exhibiting his work around 1975. In 1985 the artist was a recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
  Today the art of Michael Jed Robbins will be found in many important collections, including The Sara Roby Foundation, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.

Condition: Printed upon hand-made, archival paper and with full margins as created by the artist in 1989. Signed, dated, titled and numbered, '34/45', by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. A strong, beautifully printed impression with fine, unfaded hand coloring and in excellent condition throughout. "Spirit of Speed II" (Race Car in Motion) stands as a superb, original example of the American art of Michael Robbins.
