Auguste Lowe

Auguste Lowe - Dock Scene Brussels

Dock Scene, Brussels

Auguste Lowe's "Dock Scene, Brussels" is an original etching created by the Belgian artist between 1930 and 1940. Besides signing and numbering, '6/50', the etching in pencil under the image, the artist has written on the verso, “Brussel, A. Lowe”. The tall tower in the background, therefore, might be the spire of the Hotel de Ville. "Dock Scene, Brussels" is a fine, original example of the etched art by the early twentieth century artist, Auguste Lowe.

Artist: Lowe, Auguste (Born, Belgium, 1900)
Date: c. 1930 - 1940

"Dock Scene, Brussels" is both a large and fine example of the etching methods of Auguste Lowe. Dock workers are unloading the provisions from a small craft. Behind them another vessel is being unloaded by means of a large conveyor belt. They are probably on the banks of the small River Senne, which serves as a canal-feeder to the city.
