Adrien Lommelin's original engraving depicts a portrait of Paulus De Vos. Paulus De Vos, was a famous seventeenth century painter of animals and hunting scenes. This engraving is based upon a design created by Anthony Van Dyck. It is printed upon hand-made, laid 17th century paper and with wide, full margins. Note: Adriaen Lommelin: Born in Amiens, Adrien Lommelin journeyed to Flanders in 1654 and studied engraving techniques under Joseph Cossie in Antwerp. In 1662 he was admitted as a master in the Antwerp Guild. The majority of his engravings are based upon the designs of either Peter Paul Rubens or Anthony Van Dyck.
  Among Adriaen Lommelin's best works of art are his portraits after Van Dyck. These include King Charles the First of England, King Ferdinand of Austria, Jacob Le Roi, Jan De Wael and the artist, Paulus De Vos. Paulus De Vos (1600-1654) was a famous contemporary painter of animals and hunting scenes. Adriaen Lommelin's paintings are included in such major collections as the Prado and the Hermitage.

Containing minor spotting in the outer margins, else a deeply printed, early impression showing no sign of wear or deterioration of line. "Paulus De Vos" represents an important original example of the 17th century portrait art of Adrien Lommelin.
