Bingley Bridge

Frederick Cecil Jones's original etching, "Bingley Bridge" was created by the British artist in 1912. This particular impression is printed upon hand made, laid paper and with full margins and is signed, titled and dated in the plate. "Bingley Bridge" is also signed, titled, dated and annotated, "First Proof, First State", in pencil by Frederick Cecil Jones along the lower margin. This etching depicts the Ireland Bridge in Bingley, a small town about six miles from Bradford where F. C. Jones was born.

Note: Frederick Cecil Jones 'F. C. Jones': A Yorkshire painter, etcher and teacher, Frederick Cecil Jones received his education at the Bradford College of Arts, where he received two silver medals and one bronze medal. Frederick Cecil Jones was a frequent exhibitor at both the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy. As well his art was shown at major galleries in London, Bradford, Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool and Sheffield. In 1937 two of his etchings were purchased by the Chantrey Bequest.
  In his etched art Frederick Jones concentrated mainly upon landscapes and town or city views. Bingley Bridge is annotated, "First Proof, First State", by the artist -- meaning that this was the first impression printed from the plate.
Note: "This is an etching of Ireland Bridge in Bingley, a small town about six miles from Bradford where F. C. Jones was born. Though some of the buildings have changed recently, it is still quite clear that it is a representation of this bridge, as it crosses the River Aire." * We wish to thank Andrew & Norma Smith for providing this information.

Condition: Printed upon hand made, laid paper and with full margins as printed by the artist in 1912. Signed, titled and dated in the plate and signed, titled, dated and annotated in pencil by the artist along the lower margin. A finely printed impression and in very good condition throughout. Bingley Bridge represents a prime, original example of the etched art of Frederick Cecil Jones.
