Eduard Hopf's original silkscreen, "Boats at Shore" is printed upon thick white laid paper and with full margins as created by the artist around 1950. This impression bears the 'Collectors of American Art', Inc., New York, blindstamp on the verso of the paper. "Boats at Shore" represents a prime, original example of the landscape art created by the German painter and printmaker, Eduard Kaspar Hopf.

Note: Eduard Kaspar Hopf 'Eduard Hopf': A twentieth century German painter and printmaker, Eduard Kaspar Hopf moved to Hamburg in 1923 to study at the Academy under such artists as Sauerlandt, Arnold and Pauli. Initially influenced by the Neue Sachlichkeit, Eduard Hopf became a leading member of the Hamburg Secession, along with such painters as Heinrich Stegemann, Erich Hartmann, Dorothea Maetzel-Johannsen and Anita Ree.
  During the Second World War, Hopf lived through the aerial bombings of Luebeck (March, 1942) and Hamburg. He created a number of important drawings of the devastation created in these cities and, in 2002, the city of Luebeck hosted a major exhibition of Eduard Hopf's war art.
  After the war (1945), Eduard Hopf taught art and created mosaics and ceramic sculptures for public institutions and buildings. In 1957 the artist received a special award from the University of Hamburg. Today the art of Eduard Hopf is included in the permanent collections of museums in Hamburg, Luebeck and other major German cities.
  During his career Eduard Hopf created original prints in the media of woodcuts, lithography and the silkscreen. The artist travelled throughout Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and North Africa, particularly the Sudan. "Boats at Shore" probably represents a scene in North Africa.
Provenance: This original silkscreen hails from the collection of 'Collectors of American Art', Inc., New York, and bears their blindstamp on the verso. 'Collectors of American Art, Inc'., was a publisher of original prints during the latter twentieth century.
