Edward Hill's etching, "Domination of Black" was both designed and engraved by the American painter, etcher and photographer between 1965 and 1970. This is an original etching and engraving printed upon fine laid paper, signed, titled and numbered by the artist in pencil. This impression of Domination of Black was formerly in the collection of the Associated American Artists of New York.

Note: Edward Hill: A contemporary American painter, etcher and photographer, Edward Hill received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design (1957) and his Masters of Fine Arts from Yale University (1960). He taught art techniques at Florida State University from 1959 to 1962. He was then appointed Professor of Art at Smith College from 1962 to 1976, Dartmouth College from 1969 to 1970 and at Amherst College, in 1971. Since 1976, Edward Hill has been a Professor of Art at the University of Houston, Texas.
  Most of Edward Hill's etchings and aquatints were created quite early in his career. Since his appointment to the University of Houston, the artist has been primarily occupied with artistic photography, particularly in the field of computer-generated imaging. In this medium, Edward Hill has received many commissions from the city of Houston. Edward Hill's original prints and photographs are today included in the following collections; the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts, Texas A & M University, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the International Center for Photography, New York.
Provenance: This impression of Domination of Black was formerly in the collection of the Associated American Artists of New York. Since its creation in the mid 1930's the Associated American Artists commissioned original graphic art from such great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and others. It published etchings and lithographs of no less stature during the 1960's and 1970's as contributing artists included Jack Levine, Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns, Leonard Lehrer and Sidney Chafetz, as well as a number of fine, international artists. It is possible that Domination of Black was commissioned by this publisher.

Condition: Printed upon thick laid paper and with full, deckled margins as published around 1965 - 1970. Signed, titled and numbered '16/25' by the artist in pencil under the lower plate-mark. A finely printed, tonal impression in deep blacks and in excellent condition throughout. Domination of Black represents a striking, original example of the graphic art of Edward Hill.
