Richard A. Florsheim's original lithograh, "Combat" represents one of the artist's earlier color lithographs. During the last decade of his life, Richard Florsheim worked mainly in this color medium. This original lithograph is printed upon laid 'Arches' watermarked paper and with full, deckled margins as published in a limited edition of fifty impressions in 1969. It is signed and numbered by Florsheim in pencil along the lower margin. "Combat" is a fine, original example of war art created by the American artist, Richard Florsheim.

Note: Richard A. Florsheim 'Richard Florsheim': A prominent twentieth century American printmaker, painter, sculptor, educator and writer, Richard A. Florsheim first studied at the University of Chicago before going to New York to study at the Museum of Modern Art and at the Metropolitan Museum, under Aaron Bohrod. His education was completed in Paris at the Musee Nationale d'Art Moderne. Richard Florsheim gained international recognition in the late 1930's when he first began exhibiting his art at such major institutions as the Salon des Refuses, Paris, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Art. During the following years his original prints and paintings were shown at numerous public galleries both in the United States and in Europe.
  Richard Florsheim was a full member of the American Graphic Artists, the Audubon Artists, the Artists Equity Association and the prestigious National Academy of Design. During his career he received such major conferments as the Art Institute of Chicago Award (1946), the Pennell Fund Award (1950) and the Library of Congress Award (1956). His original lithographs and paintings are included in numerous public museums in America, Britain, France and Germany.
  Richard Florsheim's graphic oeuvre consists of slightly under two hundred and fifty prints, the majority being in the medium of lithography. Combat represents one of the artist's earlier color lithographs. During the last decade of his life Florsheim worked mainly in this color medium. Combat probably reflects upon Richard Florsheim's personal experience with warfare. During World War Two he served with the U. S. Forces in France and Germany. In this brilliant composition both the tragedy and mayhem of conflict is depicted through mazes of human forms, circles and diagonal lines.

  Matted with 100% Archival Materials
Condition: Printed upon laid 'Arches' watermarked paper and with full, deckled margins as published in 1969. Signed and numbered, '6/50' by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Containing some matt burning in the outer margins as well as a small tear in the upper right margin (ending well away from the actual image), else a finely printed full color impression and in very good condition throughout. Combat represents an important original example of the famous art of Richard A. Florsheim.
