Dave Fleischer - Betty Boop on Parade

Betty Boop on Parade

Dave Fleischer's original serigraph cel, "Betty Boop on Parade" is printed upon transparent mylar and with full margins. It bears the official King Features/Fleischer Studios stamp in the lower right corner. This serigraph cel is a fine, original example of the animated figure of Betty Boop.

Title: Betty Boop on Parade
Artist: Fleischer, Dave (New York City, 1894 - 1979)
Date: 1991
Medium: Original Serigraph Cel
Publisher: Fleischer Studio Inc/King Features Syndicate Inc.
Note: Max and David Fleischer: In 1921, the brothers Max and David Fleischer founded an animation studio under the name of 'Inkwell Films'. It was renamed seven years later as the now familiar ' Fleischer Studios'. Max Fleischer was the animation artist responsible for such famous creations as Popeye (1929-1942), Betty Boop (1931-1939) and Superman (1941-1942). He also made the full length, animated feature film, Gulliver's Travels (1939).
Betty Boop was based on the character of Helen Kane, a singer at Paramount Studios who was known as the 'Boop oop a Doop Girl'. Through her successful career the animated figure of Betty Boop underwent some modifications. The 1934 Motion Picture Code, for example, forced Betty to lower her skirt slightly and to remove her provocative garter. Even such a famous creation as Betty Boop could not completely withstand the attacks of the moral censors.
Edition: Limited edition of one thousand nine hundred and fifty impressions.
This original serigraph cel was published by Fleischer Studios in 1991 to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the creation of Betty Boop. It was limited to a sole edition of 1,950 impressions.
Size: 10 X 8 1/4 (Sizes in inches are approximate, height preceding width of plate-mark or image.)
