Falma - Always a Bridesmaid

Always a Bridesmaid

Title: Always a Bridesmaid
Artist: Falma?
Date: c. 1970
Medium: Original Color Aquatint and Etching
Edition: Limited Edition of twenty impressions, Numbered 4/20.
Provenance: From the archives of the Associated American Artists of New York. The Associated American Artists was created in the mid 1930's and commissioned original graphic art from such great American masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and many others. During the 1950's and 1960's it published lithographs and etchings by artists of no less distinction, such as, Jack Levine, Sidney Chafetz, Alexander Dobkin and Marion Greenwood. Its archives housed a major collection of twentieth century American art.
Note: Because of its difficult, multiple printings, the creation of colour aquatints and etchings is rarely within the domain of the amateur artist. Particularly within its finely crafted range of colouration and tonal values it is unlikely that Always a Bridesmaid was created by anyone but an accomplished etcher. An original etching, Always a Bridesmaid depicts a window display of a wedding shop with various bride and bridesmaid hats. The two signs within the image read; Bridal Supplies and Wholesale and Retail.
