Title: Botschaft von Moses
Artist: Dahmen, Karl Fred (Stolberg, Germany, born, 1917)
Date: 1980
Medium: Original Colour Etching with Embossing
Publisher: John Szoke Graphics
Note: Karl Fred Dahmen: Arguably the most influential artist of modern day Germany, Karl Fred Dahmen is equally esteemed for his paintings, constructions and his original graphic art. Dahmen studied art initially in Aachen and then at the Academy of Munich. After completing his studies, K. F. Dahmen's artistic career (as well as the careers of many others) was thwarted by the rise to power of the Nazis. After the war (1945,) Karl Fred Dahmen resumed his activities as an artist and began to exhibit his paintings in German expositions. A major element upon the development of his art occurred in 1951 when the artist moved to Paris. For the following nine years Dahmen was involved and working with the famous Ecole de Paris movement.
Karl Fred Dahmen returned to live permanently in Germany in 1960. In 1967 he assumed the post of Professor of Fine Arts at the Munich Academy. Since 1958 his prints and paintings have been regularly exhibited throughout his native country, including venues in Dusseldorf, Mannheim, Cologne, Linz, Freiburg, Berlin and Lucerne.
Combining etching, aquatint and embossing, Botschaft von Moses is clearly a tour de force of Karl Fred Dahmen's great art. Botschaft von Moses was published in a single limited edition of seventy-five impressions in 1980.
