Alfonso Corpus

Alfonso Corpus - En Tiempos Pasados or In Times Gone By

En Tiempos Pasados (In Times Gone By)

Alfonso Corpus's original lithograph, "En Tiempos Pasados" (In Times Gone By) is both an accomplished and intriguing work of art by this American artist. Both strange and familiar, the image emerges like a gigantic icon from the dark, black background. This original lithograph is printed upon pure rag paper with the 'Arches' watermark and with full, deckled margins as published in 1983. It is signed, titled, dated and annotated 'S P 1' (Artist Proof Impression) by Alfonso Corpus in pencil along the lower margins.

Artist: Corpus, Alfonso (Born, Gary, Indiana - Resides, New Jersey)
Date: 1983
Medium: Original Lithograph
Edition: Artist Proof SP1-' (Artist Proof Impression)
Note: Alfonso Corpus: "I have a constant fascination with Mexico and remember the stories my father would tell me about his life there during the Mexican Revolution. In order to maintain the spirit and values of Mexican culture, I have been bringing together the best of my ideas of the Mexican experience with my contemporary studies."
A modern American printmaker and painter, two factors figure prominently in the art of Alfonso Corpus: firstly, his Mexican heritage and secondly, his thirteen years working at a steel mill. In this compelling lithograph entitled, "En Tiempos Pasados" (In Times Gone By), both these elements are apparent.
After his experience as a steel worker, Alfonso Corpus studied at the Indiana University at Bloomington and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in printmaking. In 1980 he began teaching printmaking and drawing at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, in Pomona, and is currently an Associate Professor there. During his career Alfonso Corpus has received awards from the Ford Foundation, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Rutgers Center for Innovative Printmaking as well as receiving the Distinguished Faculty Fellowship from Stockton College.
"En Tiempos Pasados" (In Times Gone By) is annotated by the artist -- "S P 1" --which perhaps signifies 'Special Proof 1'. Both strange and familiar, the image emerges like a gigantic icon from the dark, black background.
