University and the Cleveland Museum of Art. He is recognized as a modern
master of both the etching and woodcut mediums. |

      | | During the 1960's, Sidney Chafetz became best known for his satirical
art and for his incisive portrayals of cultural leaders and icons. He
stated, "In another environment, I might want to concern myself with purely
technical, compositional, or poetic experimentations. At the moment, I
see too many absurd things around me to indulge in these luxuries." *
Debussy is a superb example of Sidney Chafetz's ability to capture the spirit
of a cultural icon; in this case, that of the great Impressionist composer.
(James Watrous, A Century of American Printmaking: 1880-1980,
        Madison, The University of Wisconsin Press, 1984, pp. 289 & 290). |

less stature during the 1960's as contributing artists included Jack Levine,
Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns and Sidney Chafetz. |
