	Samuel George Cahan: A twentieth century American painter, etcher and illustrator, Samuel George Cahan studied art at the Art Students' League of New York under Joseph Pennell and others. His first nationally recognized art was mostly in the field of book illustrations, which he first published as early as 1924. Later, Samuel George Cahan turned more towards the mediums of fine etching and painting which were exhibited in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington.
	After the termination of World War Two, Samuel Cahan produced a number of remarkable etchings detailing the life of the Jewish community in New York City. Atonement is one of these original etchings. These etchings were published in that city in editions of seventy five; seventy numbered impressions preceded by five artist's proofs (marked A/P). They are rightly considered to be among Cahan's finest works of original art.
