Alfred Louis Brunet-Debaines's original etching, "Notre-Dame de Bruges" bears the fine lines and sharp contrasts one associates his earlier etched art. This landscape view depicting Notre-Dame de Bruges is an original etching created by the nineteenth century French artist, Alfred Brunet-Debaines around 1870. It is signed by the artist in the plate to the lower right.

Note: Alfred Louis Brunet Debaines 'Alfred Brunet-Debaines': A French etcher of street scenes and architecture, Alfred Brunet-Debaines began his studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, in 1863.At this time he also learned etching techniques under such masters as Maxime Lalanne, Leon Gaucherel, and Jules Jacquemart. Alfred Brunet-Debaines exhibited his first etchings at the Paris Salon in 1866.
  Around 1870, Alfred Louis Brunet Debaines was invited to England by the influential writer and critic, Philip Gilbert Hamerton. Hamerton commissioned this artist to contribute original etchings to his publications, such as, The Portfolio and Etching and Etchers. Alfred Brunet-Debaines thus spent a large part of his career working and living in London and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy from 1872 to 1886. Many major museums in both France and England include examples of his etched art in their permanent collections.
  Notre-Dame de Bruges bears the fine lines and sharp contrasts one associates with Alfred Brunet-Debaines's earlier etched art. His later work most often bears Impressionistic elements. One should note that Alfred Brunet-Debaines was not the only artist delineating this famous cathedral at Bruges on this day. Another artist, equipped with pencil and paper, sits to the lower left.

Condition: Printed upon fine china paper and with full, large margins as published around 1870. Signed by the artist in the plate to the lower right. A finely printed impression with deeply etched lines and in very good condition throughout. Altogether, Notre-Dame de Bruges represents a prime, original example of the architectural art of Alfred Louis Brunet-Debaines.
