Leonard Robert Brightwell (Leonard Brightwell)

Leonard Robert Brightwell - The Babes in the Wood

The Babes in the Wood

"The Babes in the Wood" was created by the British etcher and illustrator, Leonard Robert Brightwell around 1925. It is one of L. R. Brightwell's finest works of animal art. This chance encounter between a squirrel and a pair of wide eyed young birds brilliantly renders both the astonishment and humour contained within this scene. This original drypoint engraving is printed upon hand made, laid paper bearing the 'J. Whatman' watermark and with wide margins as published in London by the British company, "James Connell & Sons" in an edition of one hundred impressions. This original impression of "The Babes in the Wood" is signed and titled by Leonard Brightwell in pencil along the lower margin under the plate-mark.
