Alexander A. Blum's "Old Boston Street Scene" is a fine, original example of his etched art. Using strong contrasts of vertical and diagonal lines he also has employed extensive wiping to the plate to create plate tone along the outer limits of the etching.

"Old Boston Street Scene" is an original etching created by the American artist, Alex A. Blum between 1915 and 1920. This impression is signed by the artist in pencil along the lower margin.

Note: Alexander A. Blum 'Alexander Blum': A fine American painter, etcher and illustrator, Alex Blum studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, and with the Art Students' League of New York. During the 1920's and 1930's his art was included in many major exhibitions in Washington, Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia and Boston. After 1940 most of Alexander Blum's artistic work was in the field of illustration. Among other museums, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts owns an extensive collection of Blum's etchings and paintings.
  Alexander Blum's artistic career may be roughly divided into two categories. Until 1930, most of his etchings were architectural views of major cities within the eastern United States, such as this original etching entitled "Old Boston Street Scene". Later, he turned more towards figure studies and more decorative compositions, which in turn inclined him to the illustrative arts.

Condition: Printed upon wove paper and with large full margins. Signed by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Containing some matte burning close to the plate-mark, else a fine impression and in good condition throughout.
