Martin Barooshian's original embossed etching and aquatint, "Orpheus" dates from 1961 and exists in four states. This original, final and completed state was then published in a limited edition of fifty signed s. It is signed, titled and numbered by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. "Orpheus" is a fine, original example of the etched art created by the American artist, Martin Barooshian.

Note: Martin Barooshian: A leading contemporary American printmaker, Martin Barooshian studied art at the School of the Boston Museum and at Tufts University. In 1956 he concluded his printmaking studies in Paris, under Stanley William Hayter and G. Dorfinant. Since 1950 the artist has published a fine oeuvre of creative etchings with strong elements of surrealism and mythological imagery.
  Martin Barooshian's etchings have now been exhibited world wide. Today his art is included in such major international collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the New British Museum of American Art, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Library of Congress, Washington, DC, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, IBM Corporation, Xerox Corporation and the Museum of Modern Art, New Delhi, India. Martin Barooshian is a member of Boston Printmakers and the Philadelphia Print Club. He also served as President of the Society of American Graphic Artists.
  "Orpheus" dates from 1961 and exists in four states. In the first three states the artist worked upon various aspects of both the etching and the aquatinted background. Martin Barooshian pulled six s from each of these three incomplete states. For the fourth and final state the artist added the harp in the blue circle and embossed the entire portrait with a series rectangular and circular shapes, lending a strong sculptural quality to the image. This original, final and completed state was then published in a limited edition of fifty signed s. "Orpheus" is a fine, original example of the etched art created by the American artist, Martin Barooshian.

Condition: Printed upon thick laid paper and with full, deckled margins as published in the sole, limited edition of fifty s in 1961. Containing faint stains in all four corners of the margins from masking tape on the verso (which has now been removed). Apart from this the actual etching is finely printed and in excellent condition throughout. Signed, titled and numbered, '3/50', by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Orpheus represents a superb, original example of the famous etched art of Martin Barooshian.
