Paul Van Hoeydonck

Oscar The Robot

Paul Van Hoeydonck's original silkscreen, "Oscar The Robot", was published by Licht Editions in 1971. This original impression hails from the collection of Roger Trlak and bears his inventory number, 'T-963', on the verso. "Oscar The Robot" is printed upon thick, smooth paper and with full margins as published in the limited edition of one hundred and fifty impressions. It is signed and dated by Paul Van Hoeydonck in pencil along the lower margin.

Note: Paul Van Hoeydonck: A Belgian printmaker and painter, Paul Van Hoeydonck studied both archeology and art history in Antwerp. His first one man exhibition took place in that city in 1952. During the following years van Hoeydonck both lived and worked in Belgium and in the United States. His art is now included in the collections of leading museums in Europe and America.
Source: In 1971, Licht Editions commissioned twelve contemporary international artists to create an original silkscreen for their 1972 Licht Editions Serigraph Calendar. Contributing artists included John Wesley, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Josef Levi, Charles Hinman, Paul Van Hoeydonck and Robert Stanley. Each silkscreen was published in a limited, signed edition of 150 impressions. The wonderful Oscar the Robot was created for this set.
Provenance: From the collection of Roger Trlak and bearing his inventory number, 'T-963', on the verso. Roger Trlak (1934-1975) established the commercial art company of Martin-Trlak in Chicago. In 1972 he also opened the RST Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where he exhibited not only his own large collection of mostly contemporary art but also held important exhibitions of many modern artists. These Included such major American and international printmakers as Joseph Hirsch, Luigi Lucioni, Birgit Skiold and Paul Wunderlich. Among Trlak's closest friends in the arts community were Raphael Soyer, Ivan Albright and Hans Burkhardt. Their original prints and paintings were constantly exhibited at the RST Gallery until it was closed in 1975 due to Trlak's untimely death.

Condition: Printed upon a thick, smooth paper and with full margins as published by Licht Editions in the limited edition of 150 impressions in 1971. A finely printed impression and in excellent condition throughout. Signed and dated by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. Oscar The Robot is a prime, original example of the art of Paul Van Hoeydonck.
