Owen Staples, (like many other Canadian and American printmakers) created his own, original Christmas cards during the early twentieth century. This original etching and aquatint of Trinity Church, in Toronto is printed upon a folded sheet of wove paper. On the folded sheet Mrs. Staples has written, "Christmas Greetings from Mr. and Mrs. Owen Staples". "Trinity Church, Toronto" is a fine, original example of the landscape art created by the Canadian artist, Owen P. Staples.

Note: Owen P. Staples 'Owen Staples: One of Toronto's leading artists of the early twentieth century, Owen P. Staples emigrated to Canada at the age of four. Showing an early inclination for art, Owen Staples completed studies under both Horatio Walker and George Reid at the Art Students' League of Toronto before reaching the age of twenty. He then completed his artistic education under the famous American painter, Thomas Eakins, in Philadelphia (1887-1888). Staples first gained employment as an illustrator for the Toronto Evening Telegram, working there from 1885 to 1908. Thereafter, Owen Staples was appointed the historical painter for the John Ross Robertson Collection, as well as illustrating a number of books, executing commissioned murals, and producing a fine oeuvre of paintings, watercolours and etchings. The etchings of Owen Staples deal mostly with Toronto scenes and provide and valuable artistic and historical record of that city. like many other Canadian and American printmakers created Owen Staples created his own, original Christmas cards during the early twentieth century. Trinity Church, Toronto is a fine, original example of his art in this medium.
  Owen Staples has long been recognized as a master painter and etcher of architectural views and landscapes. He was a full member of the Ontario Society of Artists (1889), the Canadian Painter-Etchers (1916 - later, President), and of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (1925). During his career, Owen Staples frequently exhibited with the prestigious Royal Canadian Academy (1888-1940), as well as with the Scottish Water Colour Society (1933-1938), and in St. Louis and Chicago. His art is housed in most major Canadian collections, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, and the National Gallery of Canada.

Size: 3 3/8 X 3 1/2 (Sizes in inches are approximate, height preceding width of plate-mark or image.)
  Matted with 100% Archival Materials
Condition: Printed upon wove paper and folded into the form of a Christmas card. Signed by Owen Staples in the plate to the lower right and bearing the above mentioned annotations by Mrs. Staples on the folded sheet. Bearing a slight, horizontal line (caused by printing pressure) in the sky, else a finely printed impression and in good condition throughout. Trinity Church, Toronto represents a prime, original example of the etched art of Owen Staples.
