La Obra (Construction Site)

Mario Rangel's "La Obra" (Construction Site) is an original pen and ink wash drawing created in 1963. It is drawn upon wove paper with full margins, signed, and dated '63'; by Mario Rangel along the lower left margin and titled by him in pencil on the verso of the drawing. In "La Obra", Mario Rangel portrays a view of the construction of a large, architectural pyramidal edifice. It is a superb example of the modern art created by the Mexican artist, Mario Rangel.

Note: Mario Rangel: A contemporary Mexican artist, Mario Rangel has exhibited his paintings and drawings in Mexico, the United States and Europe. His art is included in the permanent collections of such institutions as the Museo del Chopo and Michigan State University. In 1994, Mario Rangel participated in an exhibition at the Casa de America, Madrid, Spain, entitled, "Cinco artistas mexicanos".
  In "La Obra", Mario Rangel portrays the construction of a large, pyramidal edifice. In the foreground workers stand or sit before the structure that dwarfs them. In a sense this haunting work of art takes us far back in time to the famous pyramids of the Aztec Empire.

Condition: Drawn upon wove paper and with full margins. Signed and dated '63' by Mario Rangel along the lower left margin and titled by him in pencil on the verso. Very faint staining exists within the centre of the image, else in good condition throughout. La Obra represents a superb example of the modern Mexican art of Mario Rangel.
