Cyrus Cobb's original etching, "Old House on Parer Street, Boston" is printed upon hand-made, Japon paper and with large, full margins as published in Boston in 1881. This impression is signed and titled by the artist in the plate to the lower right. A former owner of this etching has written in pencil on the verso of "Old House on Parer Street, Boston" "On Back Bay in 1881. Junction of Massachusetts and Commonwealth Avenues. This is a fine,original example of the Boston art created by the 19th century American artist, Cyrus Cobb.

Note: Cyrus Cobb: An early nineteenth century Massachusetts sculptor, painter, etcher and musician, Cyrus Cobb studied art in Boston under John A. Jackson. His twin brother, Darius Cobb, also became a well known portrait painter and sculptor. Cyrus Cobb's two best known public sculptures are the Soldier's Monument on the Cambridge Common and the full length portrayal of Paul Revere at Boston. Cyrus Cobb as well wrote and illustrated Sonnets to the Masters of Art. He was a full member of the Boston Art Club.
  Some of Cyrus Cobb's paintings and etchings provide valuable artistic and historic depictions of life in nineteenth century Boston. Old House on Parer Street, Boston is one such example. A former owner of this etching has written in pencil on the verso, "On Back Bay in 1881. Junction of Massachusetts and Commonwealth Avenues." This original etching then, is a fine study of the lives of the poor in Boston at that time.

Condition: Printed upon hand-made, Japon paper and with large, full margins as published in Boston in 1881. Signed and titled by the artist in the plate to the lower right. A finely printed impression in dark sepia and in excellent condition throughout. This original etching stands as a prime example of the important Boston art of Cyrus Cobb.
