Anders Monsen Askevold

Anders Monsen Askevold - Figures and Cattle by a Forest Stream

Figures and Cattle by a Forest Stream

Anders Monsen Askevold - Figures and Cattle by a Forest Stream: A Romantic landscape and animal painter, Anders Askevold held a prominent place in nineteenth century Norwegian art. In original paintings such as "Figures and Cattle by a Forest Stream", Anders Monsen Askevold created a form of pastoral ideal of Norway's countryside, most particularly its woods and fjords. In this beautiful scene a woman cradling her baby in her arms has stopped to talk to a woman washing her clothes in the stream. Cattle have come to the stream to drink from its cool waters. In the background we see the dense greenery of the Norwegian woods, and, to the left, a humble wooden farmhouse.

This original oil painting on canvas was created by the 19th century Norwegian painter, Anders Monsen Askevold in 1879. It is painted upon nineteenth century canvas and housed in both its original stretcher and frame.
