Art of The Print: Women in Art Index: This page contains a listing of original works of art by International artists. This page features depictions of women in the fine arts throughout the centuries. Our Gallery, Art of the Print / www.artoftheprint.com offers a wide selection of international fine art. We sell original paintings, watercolors, drawings, monotypes, engravings, etchings, lithographs and other mediums of original graphic art. These works of art date from the Renaissance period to the contemporary art period. We guarantee the authenticity of every work of art 100%. Full documentation and certification is provided.

The following works of art are linked by the subject of women. For centuries artists have depicted women in an almost infinite variety of roles. Women at work, religious depictions of the Madonna, representations of women in Royalty, motherhood, portrayals of women with their children, images of old women, and women's fashion designs are also very popular. During the nineteenth century periodicals and magazines published fashion engravings depicting ladies, children and men dressed in fashionable clothes to indicate what was in vogue and should be worn. These are all major themes but many others emerge. Time also plays an important role. For example, one will note a major difference between the idealized portrayals of women from the Victorian era and the more realistic depictions of the twentieth century woman created by artists. It is also of interest to compare how both female and male artists have approached this theme. As is always the case with the fine arts, however, the primary influence rests with the individual talents of each artist.

This index page features original art created by international painters, illustrators, watercolour artists and original printmakers from the sixteenth century to the late twentieth century all linked by the subject of women. A few of the artists listed are Martin Lewis, George Bellows, Carl Josef Bauer, George Adomeit, Alfred Charles Stanley Anderson 'Stanley Anderson', Anders Monsen Askevold 'Anders Askevold', Alice Asmar, Antimo Beneduce, Pierre Bonnard, Felix Bracquemond, Colleen Browning, Jennie Brownscombe, Jennie Agusta Brownscombe, Federico Castellon, George Cruikshank, Giuseppe de Nittis, Louis-Henry Dupont 'Louis Dupont', Georg Sigmund Facius, Kunisada, Hilda Castellon, Myles Birket Foster, Margaret Ann Gaug, Richard Redgrave, Frederick Christian Lewis, Louis Marcel Myr, John Neagle, John Ogborne, Sylvia Penther, Bernard Picart, Max Pollak, Edward Purcell, Felicien Rops, Margaret Sargent 'Margarett Sargent', Alice Scott, Robert Thew, Andrea Vaccario, Jose Varona, Joseph Wagner, Antoine Weber, the German painter, printmaker and sculptor, Paul Wunderlich, and many other outstanding artists of this genre.

Art by these artists is included in important corporate and private collections all over the world. Many of their works of art are also in the permanent collections of most major museums and universities, such as the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, the University of Texas, the Seattle Art Museum, Ohio University, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, DeCordova Museum, Boston, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Florence Nightingale Museum in London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate Gallery and the Arts Council of Great Britain, just to name a few.

We provide search links to different Categories ranging from old master engravings and original fine art to speciality collecting such as animals, botanicals, genre, maps, military art, posters and advertising, satirical art, sports and many other interests. You can also link to pages focused on the century you prefer or by the artists' nationalities.
