Phyllis J. Rogers (P. J. Rogers)

Phyllis J. Rogers also known as P. J. Rogers - Architectural Forms in a Landscape Untitled Composition

Architectural Forms in a Landscape (Untitled Composition)

Phyllis J. Rogers', original aquatint, Architectural Forms in a Landscape (Untitled Composition), was published in a small, limited edition of ten impressions. Of her compelling aquatints, P. J. Rogers states, "The work is about time being transitory, and that time is composed of many pieces of different times layered together, continuously. … The aquatintsare about landscape as still life and still life as landscape, a need to bring the inside and outside together. It is about having shelter and being connected with the whole at the same time. To me it is the tree house effect. It is about bringing what is inside one together with what is outside, the adventure, the magic." *From, Dorothy Shinn, "P. J. Rogers, 30 Years Retrospective", Akron Beacon Journal, January 23, 2011.

This original aquatint is printed upon smooth, archival paper and with full, deckled margins as printed and published by the artist around 1980. It is signed "P. J. Rogers" and numbered by the artist in pencil under the plate mark. Architectural Forms in a Landscape is both a scarce and beautiful, original example of the aquatint art created by the American artish Phyllis J. Rogers.

Rogers also took private lessons from the sculptor, Laszlo Szabo. Finally, she worked under Victor Hammer at the Fine Arts Academy, Vienna.
Phyllis J. Rogers initially turned her talents to still life and portrait painting. By the early 1970's, however, original printmaking (particularly the medium of aquatint) had caught her interest. Entirely self-taught in this difficult process, she prepared and printed her own plates. Her aquatints were exhibited in New York, Cleveland and elsewhere. In 1983 P. J. Rogers received the top graphic art award at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
  P. J. Rogers's last aquatint dates from 1988, as she developed allergies to the inks and solvents used in intaglio printmaking. Since that time she has created and exhibited archival pigment inkjet monoprints.
