Roselle Hellenberg Osk

Roselle Hellenberg Osk - Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Roselle Hellenberg Osk's portrait of "Franklin Delano Roosevelt", is an original drypoint engraving created by the artist around 1943, shortly before President Roosevelt's death at the end of the Second World War. It is printed upon wove paper as published in New York and signed "Roselle H. Osk" by the artist in pencil. This is a fine, original example of the portrait art created by the American artist, Roselle Osk.

Artist: Osk, Roselle Hellenberg (New York City, 1884 - 1954)
Date: c. 1943
Medium: Original Drypoint Engraving
Note: Roselle Hellenberg Osk: A twentieth century American etcher, engraver and painter, Roselle Hellenberg Osk studied art techniques at Hunter College, the Art Student's League, New York, (1903-1906) and at the National Academy of Design (1912-1915). Her first exhibited paintings date from 1920. Beginning in 1932, however, she turned mainly to the art of etching and engraving and it is in this medium where her reputation rests. The art of Roselle H. Osk is included in such major institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, the Corcoran Gallery, the Congressional Library, the Smithsonian Institution and at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.
Roselle Osk was a full member of the Society of American Etchers, the National Association of Women Artists, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, Chicago Printmakers and Prairie Printmakers. The majority of her etchings and drypoint engravings were published in limited editions of one hundred signed impressions, after which the plate was destroyed.
In her etched art, Roselle Osk was equally gifted in the fields of landscape, architectural studies and portraiture. In all probability this fine portrait of perhaps America's greatest President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945), was created shortly before his death at the end of the Second World War.
