Hamilton Hamilton's original etching, "Fetch It, Sir!" hails from a portfolio entitled, "Ten Original Etchings by the Best American Artists" published in Boston by Estes & Lauriat in 1888. It is printed upon fine hand made, laid paper and with full margins and bears the publisher's name, date and Hamilton Hamilton's name along the lower margin. This scene depicts a Victorian woman asking her Newfoundland dog to retrieve a stick from the lake. "Fetch It, Sir!" is a fine, original example of the portrait art created by the American artist, Hamilton Hamilton.

Edition: Edition of two hundred and fifty impressions of which only twenty five were signed proof impressions printed on satin silk.
Note: Hamilton Hamilton: A nineteenth century painter and etcher, Hamilton Hamilton immigrated to the United States at an early age. Mainly self-taught he initially settled in Buffalo where he painted portraits and landscapes. Hamilton remained in that city for a least three years and then explored and painted the Rocky Mountains (1875). From 1878 to 1880 he lived in France and painted scenes around Pont-Aven, Brittany.
  Hamilton Hamilton returned to the United States in 1881 and established a studio in New York City. During that year he began exhibiting his etchings and paintings at the National Academy. He was elected an Associate of the National Academy in 1886 and an Academician in 1889. Hamilton Hamilton was also a member of the New York Etching Club and the American Water Color Society.
  Besides his landscapes and portraits, Hamilton was popular for his etched genre scenes. It hails from the 1888 portfolio entitled, "Ten Original Etchings by the Best American Artists". Fetch It, Sir! is illustrative of a popular poem which the publisher has printed on a separate sheet of paper,
 

"Down by the lake I see Margery stand, Grasping a stick in her little right hand, The other one lifts a dainty white skirt, Holding it back from the danger of dirt.

Watch, the Newfoundland, waits eagerly by, Keenly attentive with nose and with eye, Expecting the moment to do his devoir By bringing his stick safe back to the shore."

Condition: Printed upon fine hand made, laid paper and with full margins as published in 1888 by Estes & Lauriat in Boston in an edition of 250 impressions. Containing faint blindstamping in the upper left margin, else a well printed, sepia impression and in good condition throughout. Fetch It, Sir! represents a prime, original example of the etched art of Hamilton Hamilton. Note: The printed poem is included.
