Andrew Affleck's "Old Cathedral of Baltimore" is an original etching with plate tone. Jones, Baltimore, Maryland in 1912. It is signed in pencil by Andrew F. Affleck along the lower margin. Note: Andrew F. Affleck 'Andrew Affleck': Along with Hedley Fitton and Axel Haig, Andrew Affleck ranked as one of Britain's most important architectural etchers of the early twentieth century. Best known for his large plates, Andrew Affleck etched many views in England, Holland, Italy, Belgium and in America. Around 1910, Andrew Affleck moved permanently to France and some of his finest art deals with French buildings and their interiors. Today, the largest collections of Andrew Affleck's original etchings are housed in the British Museum, London.
  "Old Cathedral of Baltimore" is a fine representation of Andrew Affleck's art. Here the artist has most skillfully rendered the details, tonal values and spacial effects of this truly monumental exterior. Andrew Affleck experimented with plate-toneto great effect. By leaving a thin film of ink on the plate before printing, the artist created tonal values of light and dark by clean wiping the areas he wished to be lighter, such as the columns.
  Andrew Affleck has signed and titled this original etching "Old Cathedral of Baltimore" along the lower margin (under the matt) of the paper.

Condition: Printed upon Fine, hand-made, paper and with full margins as published in London by Joiner, Connell & Sons, London and W. E. Jones, Baltimore, Maryland. Published simultaneously in both Britain and in America in 1912. Signed by the artist. This Etching is an exquisitely printed, beautiful and in excellent condition throughout. Altogether, it is a fine example of Andrew Affleck's art.
